Blower Airflow Direction

SPAL Centrifugal blower airflow direction

Importance of Keeping Air Intakes Clear

The blower must be installed in a position such that the areas around blower motor module air intakes and vents are kept clear of any obstruction. This is to ensure unimpeded airflow in and out of the blower to give maximum performance and component life.

The blower's SPAL Type number will indicate its configuration by casing code, motor type, and blade type. If the blower is a single blower the direction of rotation will also be indicated.

For all 001 casing blowers, air is pulled in from only one side of the blower and these intakes are on opposite sides depending on whether the blower is a D type or S type.

SPAL Centrifugal single blower airflow

For all other single wheel blowers there are air intakes from BOTH sides of the blower casing.

The exception is the 008-B45-02D type blower where there is an external motor housing. This external motor allows the whole of the internal volume of the blower casing to be taken up by the impeller blades, thus giving higher airflow.

All double wheel blower motor modules have air intakes on both sides of the module as well as around the middle of the housing, either side of the speed control resistor (if it is a 3 or 4 speed model).
